A wine tasting lunch with a seminar by Joe Roberts, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.1winedude.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Wine Dude<\/a>\u2026def worth it!!<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.winesofcrete.gr\/cretewines_files\/girlmeetsglass\/wines_of_crete_-_jow_roberts.jpg\" alt=\"wines_of_crete_-_jow_roberts\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" border=\"0\" data-pagespeed-url-hash=\"1177891339\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Crete has been making wine since about 400BC and even ruled the Fine Wine market. Unfortunately they are now more known for bulk wine.\u00a0The point of the seminar wasn\u2019t just to educate us of the wines of Crete but also to introduce us to some new grapes indigenous to Crete. They have 11 indigenous grape varieties:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reds<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Kotsifali<\/li>\n<li>Liatiko<\/li>\n<li>Mandilari<\/li>\n<li>Romeiko<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Whites<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Vidiano<\/li>\n<li>Vilana<\/li>\n<li>Plyto<\/li>\n<li>Dafni<\/li>\n<li>Thrapsathiri<\/li>\n<li>MuscatSpina<\/li>\n<li>Malvazia<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There were a ton of wines that I tasted and enjoyed, but the standouts to me from the guided tasting were the Alexakis Vidiano (white) AKA the Chardonnay of Crete with its bold, peachy aromas and apple and citrus on the palate. Full bodied with a creamy mouthfeel and a tart finish. And the Boutari Skalani (red) A blend of Kotsifali &amp; Syrah, this wine smelled of candied or dried fruit. Cherry, hints of oak, pepper and spice can be found on the palate. This wine is perfect for the summer!!
